‘Big Data’ Is No Big, Bad Wolf

J.R. Reagan, a Carey Business School senior professional instructor and a principal at Deloitte & Touche LLP, published an essay last September on the Deloitte University Press website advising that “big data” should not be feared for its potential intrusions into citizens’ lives but rather seen as “a tool with enormous possibilities to change our lives for the better.”

Wrote Reagan: “Rather than spend our energy swimming against the data tide – awash in hypothetical fears that big data might be used against us – why not dream, instead, of the myriad ways we can make it work for us?
